Security research, malware analysis, cyber threat intel, reversing, explorer of tech. Hacker of the benevolent oldschool variety, musician, Buddhist/Taoist/Unitarian, mystic. Human rights are vital. I am a neurodivergent explorer navigating embodied wetware temporality with the rest of us. This account represents myself, and does not represent any employer.
@timnewsham the intentional truncation of history to narrowly reflect specific amplified narratives that serve economic interests of the dominant paradigm and place victimized populations as pawns during an election year is something that a lot of people do not want to see.
@neurovagrant having avoided most of those discords, I am somewhat relieved. Perhaps some of these servers are just going to be ephemeral, valid only for a time.
@sawaba @strandjs right on, Adrian. I resonate with your perspective and I’ve also modified my position when talking with very young folks who are super enthusiastic and ready to pay dues. I suggest that work life balance is vital and while it may not feel like it now, to consider integrating it from the start. I realize it may be easier said than done, but in todays day and age, many employees are less interested in being crapped on.
@strandjs being eaten alive isn’t wise. Finding a healthy balance and employment that is sustainable and humane is vitally important. Thank you for sharing your reflection and updating your point of view on this crucial matter. Let’s not strive to live to work - work should enhance our lives and others lives while sustaining us and ideally our communities.
@darrenpmeyer that makes sense. I spent some time as the lead security person at a university some time back and I engaged in robust ongoing alert tuning in order to reduce fatigue and increase accuracy. I was fortunate that the org understood why it was important and specifically gave me time to dedicate to care and feeding. This was before the huge ransomware explosion, so the threat landscape wasn’t quite the same, which probably made the task easier.
@smartwatermelon @ErrataRob material from the late 1980’s from my job as the night operator on a few sweet Vax/VMS boxes and other misc systems of the era. This includes at least one VMS manual from the set they gave me when they upgraded. I think I kept the System Dump Analyzer (SDA) manual.
@darrenpmeyer what approach do you recommend?
@iagox86 I find them interesting and they can be time savers, as well as idea stimulators. Thank you.
@neurovagrant @rylancole conflict resolution with neurodiverse staff?
@neurovagrant @rylancole perhaps you are already going to cover that. I’ve worked with managers who understand how to work with neurodiverse folks and others who don’t and don’t want to learn, insisting on inflexible rigidity that drives gifted people away.
