CoMaps release 2025.12.19 is now out.

In addition to fresh #OpenStreetMap data from December 17, new features on Android include better warnings about outdated maps when trying to edit OSM and the ability to specify your own remote-server for downloading maps.

(Note: For now CoMaps expects the custom server to still serve the same maps as the "official" CoMaps server, but it's a start.)

Full list is at https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/releases/tag/v2025.12.19-11

It's been just a bit over 6 months since we made our first release. And since then CoMaps has already improved a lot.

Read on our blog about how all of our achievements are thanks to our community that has made it happen, and how you can help us improve even more in 2026.

Release 2025.12.11 is now out on Google Play, F-Droid, and the iOS AppStore. Updates include adding & editing charging sockets for electrical vehicles in #openStreetMap and a UX refresh to Material 3 on Android.

See all details here: https://www.comaps.app/news/2025-12-14/Release-2025.12.11-notes/

Did you already find any Christmas trees in CoMaps? During the Christmas season, the app displays public Christmas trees that are mapped in #OpenStreetMap (in maps from version 2025.11.19 onwards).

Need some help to find them? Check out https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/christmas-trees_1329183 to see where you can find some!

The ones around you are not mapped yet? We plan on having another release before Christmas. If you map them now, they will be included in the last pre-Christmas release!

Is It Really FOSS? is a website that reviews software that claims to be free & open source. This effort has unfortunately become necessary as projects increasingly start to "do the talk of open source", without actually "doing the walk" – effectively misrepresenting themselves as FOSS when they aren't.

Which is why we're extra happy that our offline map & navigation app has now been added to the website, listing us as a green "Yes, it's open source" ✅

Thanks to all of you, we have over 1,000 stars 🌠 on @Codeberg, a mostly volunteer-driven code forge that shares our commitment to community & Free/Libre/Open Source Software. Their efforts make the way we develop CoMaps possible.

You can help CoMaps & OpenStreetMap by looking over those notes and fixing them. Learn more about how to do so on our website: https://www.comaps.app/news/2025-10-17/improving-osm-notes/

@CoMaps Will the map format be compatible to OSMand? Would be nice to save space on the phone.

#osmand #maps #organicMaps

@Gianluca
No, CoMaps and OsmAnd use different offline map formats (CoMaps: .map, OsmAnd: .obf). You can’t use the same map files for both apps. Only GPX tracks are compatible between them.

@Gianluca

OSMand and OrganicMaps (=CoMaps) use Different map Formats. OSMand has more Information, OrganicMaps/CoMaps is smaller and faster.

However it would bei nice if OrganicMaps and CoMaps could share one Set of downloaded maps. OSMand can store the maps in an obb folder or in a User choosen directory so that the map data is available to other Apps. CoMaps should Do that too.

OrganicMaps and CoMaps download maps from different servers/Domains.

Also it would be fine if CoMaps would offer a device-local tile-server with an API compatible with Google maps and openstreetmap.org

@CoMaps

@CoMaps When will you release the iOS version?
@CoMaps Hey @IzzyOnDroid könnte man die App in deinem F-Droid Repo aufnehmen? Danke

@DocAimless

Das wird sicher geschehen, wenn es ein stable Release gibt.

@CoMaps @IzzyOnDroid

@CoMaps
What's the status on F-Droid release?

@CoMaps

Thaaanks, I've been waiting for masto integration so long! It bugged me to have so few editing options and most were social media big tech links. 💩
