I invented a thing called Slashdot before you were born, and ran it until I couldn’t any more.
My 24 port switch is now fully populated, forcing me to confront the ancient mystery of port 17: It has not seen a packet in 90 days of logs and I have literally no idea where it goes... should I unplug it now, or wait until I actually need the port?
Whenever I see a movie hoodlum use the stockings over face disguise, my brain interprets that visual as being more ‘low polygon’ than ‘bad guy’
Has AI developed far enough that I can use it to navigate the first 30 seconds of every web page in 2025 where I dismiss ads, reject cookies, say no to a newsletter, close an auto playing video and just generally click 15 times until I discover that the article is 1200 words wrapped around the same 11 word quote from a celebrity made a month ago?
Early Slashdot’s development I started appending ‘fortune’ to make sure each run was unique during testing- a timestamp would have been so boring.
occasionally this required edits to the corpus- some were blue or rendered weird or just problematic, but (paraphrasing) ‘you are the one millionth visitor, let us know if we can do anything’, even after billions of page views occasionally resulted in an email from an excited reader thrilled that they were so lucky. Good times.
Andor pulled off an almost impossible task for any prequel- not only was it extraordinary on its own, but it made Rogue One *better*. Salute.
Happy Star Wars day to those who celebrate. I cheated at Sabacc against lando in Star Wars Outlaws.. maybe finish it later this week… any suggestions for my next game?
Disney+ release strategies has me load it just often enough to always throw an HDCP error requiring me to power cycle my streaming box, TV, and Receiver just to watch content I paid for… apparently this discourages piracy somehow.
Google reset my preference to not show me shorts in the YouTube app again.
I took this photo apparently today in April 2012. It was a wonderful afternoon outside the udvar hazy Smithsonian with a rag tag group of think geekers who let me hang out with them for the spectacle despite the fact that I no longer worked for the same corporation as them.
