@SpeechTherapist I haven’t found much in the way of Kdrama chat, but my BTS chats are constant in a fun way.
@SpeechTherapist oh I loved the dive! I started studying Korean because it is fun with my love of K-pop and Kdramas, but really also to get a linguistic window into the world! So trying to build a Korean AAC vocabulary on a system designed for English is challenging in ways That would make any other non Romance language difficult too. So I can be little advocate for Korean with app developers, it can help other languages. Not that I’ve made any particular in roads , but I try 😁
@SpeechTherapist I need to get a sense of slang better because I have a lot of emergent communicators, so I don’t always add it because I’m busy adding family names etc. but I need to prioritize it. I should ask my kids.
Funny story one learner found the word koosh ball in his Lamp device under the toys section. I’ve thought including the word feels a bit dated but not enough edit it out, but the learner was intrigued and asked for a koosh ball for Christmas 😂 He got one and loves it!
@SpeechTherapist now I’ll be going to Google “cases” in Linguistics😁. Early in my Korean studies I heard the term agglutinative which I’m still figuring out what that completely means, but I know there are lots of word parts that fit together to make words. Are the Indian languages similar in that respect as well?
Side note:
My other AAC SLP friend from India told me she really only knows the colloquial form of her home language because her language of instruction was English.
@SpeechTherapist I love hearing your experience with politeness forms! Now I have a million questions!!
@SpeechTherapist I have two different servers. Here I think I follow 15 people, and it is quiet. Then I can switch to my other server and I follow 50 people…and see way more of the Mastadon world. Sort of. I’m enjoying being confused! You inspired me to figure it out enough to get on here 😁. The more active side is my fandom account, so I guess that makes sense as there is always something to talk about😁💜
@SpeechTherapist so important to remember that!
@SpeechTherapist ☔️☔️☔️ stay safe!
I’ve built two little Mastadon homesteads, and things I can see on one, I can’t see on the other even with searching😁. Probably one of guides I’ve book marked would tell me why this is, but I sort of like the mystery.
@SpeechTherapist formality/politeness seems more important in Korean than other languages. My Korean colleague felt people would understand if mostly in informal/polite and maybe casual for talking to peers. But I’d be curious what user preference would be if formality/politeness could be easily adjusted.
