@gizmo @firefish All technology is political and encodes politically informed ideas into their architectures and interfaces. Part of why I love the fediverse is because so much of it has been built from the protocol level up with the needs and cultures of queer and especially trans people at its heart.
The politics is what makes the the activitypub protocol and the UX of platforms that implement it what it is. And that is due to the communities involved in creating these things.
And if the current political trajectory the far right is taking to attack the trans community continues it's current course, do you realize how much of the Open Source community could lose in terms of bleeding edge software development and codebase maintainers? The current political atmosphere is a direct threat on open source software development and leadership within critical standards bodies.
