Hans Thirring (1888-1976), a physicist at Uni Vienna best known for the Thirring-Lense effect, was a pacifist and a friend of Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud. He also invented the “Thirring-coat” for downhill skiing. We definitely need this back on the skiing slopes!

Important talk by Helga Kromp-Kolb today at 13:30 in the Physics Colloquium at Uni Vienna. I am afraid there won't be any good news. If we don't solve this problem, anything else we do as scientists will be meaningless.

Mural art in the atrium of our building at Uni Vienna. I (kind of) like it.

MD simulations confirm the second inflection point in the surface tension of TIP4P/2005 water. It coincides with the appearance of a density maximum and the accumulation of HDL water at the interface. Work with A. Gorfer and M. Sega.
