There may be other ways, but that's what I found. I have been looking for that feature myself as I started with the official Mastodon app on Android and could not find a translate option. I have since, however, found that you can highlight text and select to have it translated by Google Translate if you have that app. This option is more of a hastle IMHO.

If you use the Fedilab app, there are three dots at the end of each post that leads to a menu including the option of translating.
