@jadapstevens This is mostly on the county, not on WMATA. The county had a sign directing cars into the station, but since Woodmont Ave is 1-way there, it only faced north. Years ago, after getting stopped on the sidewalk by someone who asked me where the Metro station was, I contacted Chevy Chase Land Company who owns the building & they quickly painted a "to the Red Line" message on the south side of the sign in front of the building.
Just 41 years after the Bethesda Metro station opened, we are getting a WMATA-standard sign to show people approaching on foot from the west where the station is.
Key takeaway is at end of this article [gift link].
Sales of new exurban houses are falling, but there's unmet demand for urban infill. If cities & inner suburbs repeal offstreet parking mandates & cut minimum lot sizes, builders will keep building.

@drtcombs @jcriecke The purpose of the offset is to force pedestrians to slow down, look at oncoming traffic, and stop if they see it. As if they wouldn't otherwise.
The effect is that the oncoming driver sees a pedestrian who does not appear to be moving, or may even appear to be moving away from their side of the road, and fails to stop.
@philipncohen.com I would not make any assumptions.
20-30 years ago I worked with an expert on detecting non-target chemicals in environmental samples. In landfill leachate we ran into a lot of hard-to-identify-exactly compounds not in the Merck Index, that looked like some sort of degradation product of organic matter, that looked structurally like they could have endocrine effects.
