My wife likes to ask if I can hear our cat when we're heading back home from the other side of the state. Obviously just joking, but the way she keeps insisting she can led me to start talking about how decibels work. Any sound waves that traveled hundreds of miles away and still be audible would automatically destroy everything in the vicinity, and anything capable of producing such sound waves would have to destroy everything in an even bigger area

Anyway, I got done and she just said, "No, I can hear him."
