@BarrenPlanet
It seems like the only thing centrists care about is overt racism. That’s a huge problem for them and they see it as “worse” than covert racism because for them racism is largely an aesthetics problem. It makes them feel icky and it hurts people’s feelings. They don’t seem to understand that for Black people racism isn’t about our feelings getting hurt. It’s about ‘how will this harm me? Will I get arrested, fired, killed? Will my kid get punished, hurt, killed?’ We aren’t worried about our feelings. We learned how to manage that by the time we left elementary school. We are trying to survive and covert racism is just as bad as overt racism and in a lot of cases it’s worse.
There is no “better racism.”

R.I.P., you beautiful soul.
@dveditz @futurebird @dgar @rolle The *key servers have already implemented the ability to import content archives. There's even work being done to extend this to non-Activity Pub platforms. I've been saying from the start that improved account portability should be top of Eugen and Co's job jar, but they keep not making the promised improvements, which is one among many reasons I jumped ship from Mastodon.

Not dissing Mastodon here at all, just acknowledging some misgivings, and making clear that I personally prefer the increased freedom and better features of the Misskey forks.
@petergleick A pic went mini-viral on Facebook of what looked like a glowing orange, and rather large object in the sky above a friend-of-a-friend's house, which they described as "just hovering there...for AGES!!".

I reverse-image searched it and
drumroll it was a Chinese lantern, and its size was a perspective trick. The only vaguely weird thing was why it was stationary, but unusual atmospheric conditions could explain that.

Neeeext...

So everyone on the planet, pretty much, has a video camera in their pocket, and we're going with hearsay testimony as the only evidence for aliens?

It's not aliens. It's never aliens.

@doot @rolle @[email protected] Oh I don't believe you don't need to check, doots. You know your stuff already. 😉
@likewise @rolle @futurebird @dgar While almost everything I post is serious political stuff, I'd not enjoy my online experience without following a bunch of people who keep their own politics offline! That guy (@AbandonedAmerica) who just goes around taking exquisite pics of derelict buildings? I need that in my feed. The one who just blurts out random stoner thoughts all day (@cosmicallyf)...yeah that's light relief. The grumpy fella who just posts esoterica, curios and bizarre facts (@Sardonicus), gimme some of that! The non-binary person who has a camera in their hedgehog house and enjoys baiting Linux nerds into being rickrolled (@doot) and deliberately getting critical technical details wrong to infuriate reply guys? That's funny shit! 😆
@mekkaokereke Not sure if you ever followed The Revolutionary Blackout Network on Twitter, but they were (perhaps still are) under constant fire from "liberals" accusing them of being "right wing" for pointing out how Dems always continue policies that harm Black and other non-white people, when in power.

Their assumption seems to be that they'll always have the Black vote because they avoid
overt racism. And while that's mostly true, it's a shitty choice for those living with structural racism every day.
@_L1vY_ Precisely why I'll wait for a media summary rather than waste time watching it live! I would of course love something substantive to come out of this hearing. But the evidence is already pretty robust that most UFO/UAP sightings either have non-extraterrestrial explanations (military aeronautic experiments, weather balloons, drones, rare atmospheric phenomena, etc.) or else remain unexplained.

We'll see...
