Vacature: PhD candidate in the new ICAI lab Trustworthy AI for Magnetic Resonance Imaging: project on Trustworthy AI for integrated diagnostics of brain tumours

In this project on Trustworthy AI for integrated diagnostics of brain tumours we aim to reduce the need for invasive diagnostic procedures by utilizing advanced MR imaging in combination with AI technology to obtain extensive diagnostic information on brain tumors. As a PhD student, you will develop advanced image analysis and machine learning techniques that aim to assist brain tumor diagnosis. This is a challenging and multidisciplinary project, with the aim to translate and combine findings from fundamental research and advanced imaging techniques, into clinically applicable and highly relevant diagnostic tools. This project is part of a new ambitious Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI lab) within the national ROBUST consortium that is funded by the Dutch Research Council and industry. ROBUST focuses primarily on the development of trustworthy AI technology for the resolution of socially relevant issues, such as those in healthcare, logistics, media, food and energy. Our ICAI lab Trustworthy AI for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, consists of 5 PhD projects that focus on the development and validation of novel AI assisted MRI acquisition and reconstruction methods, and the translation of these to clinic. There will be strong collaboration with the other PhD students in the ICAI lab.

This study provides insight into the biology of PVS & evidence that mechanisms leading to cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) may find their roots very early in life. This has important implications for prevention strategies of SVD and related stroke and dementia.
New paper out on perivascular space genetics, published in Nature Medicine:  https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-023-02268-w
Huge effort of the @chargetiger consortium, @Roshchupkin from our group and application of a AI method developed by @fpgDubost in our group.
Genomics of perivascular space burden unravels early mechanisms of cerebral small vessel disease - Nature Medicine

Genomic analyses of large population-based cohorts uncover the genetic determinants of perivascular space burden, an MRI marker of cerebral small vessel disease, across the lifespan, and reveal potential pathways implicated in the etiology of stroke and dementia.

Nice session on image data management in core facilities. @perrinepgil presented @Fr_BioImaging's approach to image data analysis and management services and Stefan Klein shared how @BIGR_ErasmusMC manages and works with medical imaging data.
Stefan Klein presented and took part in yesterday's panel discussion on needs, challenges and expectations for research data management @EuroBioImaging in Heidelberg. (Also Happy Birthday to Stefan today! :-) )
