To my #baseball Mastodon friends, let me introduce @BCB_Sara one of the absolute best #cubs fans in the world!

@ReneeDechert

Aww, thanks!

@ReneeDechert

Oh, that reminds me to immaculate grid before I head to Wrigley...

I like how Twitter is now The Producers in that its owner is actively trying to sabotage it and also there are Nazis

wRC+ is great -- welcome!

Hey, #baseball folks!

I’d like to bump the account of @kidagreen

She’s an #Astros fan — and she appreciates wRC+!

My latest takes a closer look at the Eric Hosmer signing by the numbers — there’s not a lot to get excited about here, but it turns out a very slightly above average 1B is an improvement for a team that rolled out well-below average options in 2022.

Like I can see it mattering for the purposes of say a raise for Happ, if the Ricketts were out there making comments about how important he was to the team, but I don't see why it would hurt a team's ability to make a deal contingent on a physical.

Probably hard to research but that's my hunch.

Enjoying this essay about the flaws of peer review. It is a huge barrier to quality science and new ideas, which might be worth it if it also stopped fraud or bad ideas from gaining ground--except it doesn't. It doesn't work to filter out bad work, and it does filter out good work. https://experimentalhistory.substack.com/p/the-rise-and-fall-of-peer-review

I actually disagree with this -- it sounds like the type of advice overly cautious lawyers give to CYA, I would be really curious to see any examples of arbitration being impacted by owner comments, because I cannot imagine an arbiter is that transparently silly.
