Do you think the current global market crash could lead to world war 3? - Lemmy.World

If we consider past global conflicts like WW2 they were often preceded by global economic collapse. Once people starve, things become unstable and hawkish hardliners may step in to replace more moderate doves. War is then a way to deflect from leadership failures. Hence WW3. I have no idea how it would be triggered, but do you people think this global economic collapse has set the stage for global war? disclaimer: no politics intended!

Silentium Est Aureum - How precisely is silence golden? - Lemmy.World

Silence is said to be golden - implying even some sort of material benefit or wealth as it’s reward. I wonder, how exactly does silence ever translate to material benefit or wealth? Or just how precisely is silence golden generally speaking?

How do I block all internet trafric on win10 aside from android studio and virtualbox? - Lemmy.World

I looked into wf.msc (windows’ firewall) and it does not allow any prioritization. So you cannot exclude all traffic except from two exceptions. Any broad block rule supercedes any specific allow rule. I also tried setting up firewall rules using powershell wich allows more finegrained control. But that failed as well… I want to connect android studio to github so i can work on my FOSS apps from anywhere in the world. I also want to use virtualbox to connect to the great onlines safely. How did you resolve this issue?

Americans of Lemmy, How do you pour soda into a cup with ice without the soda going flat? - Lemmy.World

I am a huge enjoyer of fizzy beverages. I love the excitement the carbonation adds to my life! However when I pour soda into an ice-filed cup, the carbonation never makes it past the ice. It completely removes all the carbonation. Leaving me with a flat soda. I know americans drink all their beverages with a shitload of ice. How do you guys do this? teach me your ways!

Update: I had a limit for my memory usage set to some default of 4 GiB I increased that to a higher number. This improved but did not resolve the issue in the end.

Anyone reading this here is the guide I followed to do so on a Debian: discourse.ardour.org/t/…/86813

Your System has a limit to locked memory [Solution]

When I ran Ardour for the first time, it never opened. I gave a warning though which read: WARNING: Your system has a limit for maximum amount of locked memory! This might cause Ardour to run out of memory before your system runs out of memory. You can view the memory limit with ‘ulimit -l’, and it is normally controlled by /etc/security/limits.conf I tried edited the limits.config but it dint seem to work Here’s how I fixed it. Go to the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T in some distros) and type t...

Ardour keeps freezing as soon as i record on Debian. What settings fix this? - Lemmy.World

Everything is working splendidly, until I start to record Midi or Audio. Then everything freezes. I tried other audio-engines etc but only ALSA works. I also adjusted the buffer size and thereby latency. Does anybody know what settings might possibly fix this? Gratful for any and all suggestions no matter how outlandish. If I could do all my recording on Debian I could ditch the airgapped windows machine I currently use for recording and finally be 100% FOSS.

Ardour(ALSA) is struggling on my Debian built for music production, what settings do i need to change to be able to record songs.?
