The 15th International Congress on Orthopterology in San Martín de los Andes (Patagonia) is in full swing. We have heard great presentations on the latest Orthoptera research and had many fruitful discussions. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Orthopterists' Society, which was founded in 1976 at the same place. Thank you, María Marta Cigliano and Héctor Medina, for organizing this excellent conference in such a beautiful location.
Another inspiring meeting of the advisory board to the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, this time at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. Always a pleasure to help enthusiastic conservationists conducting their projects.

During the last days, we hosted a very productive and inspiring meeting of the advisory board of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund here in Luxembourg. Providing small grants for conservation projects is a very efficient way to promote conservation and recovery of threatened species.
Structural heterogeneity in forests is in important to promote biodiversity. Canopy gaps are particularly important in forests. Our newest paper shows that the Common Saw Bush-cricket (Barbitistes serricauda) is a good indicator for structural heterogeneity and biodiversity in forests: https://www.sciencedirect.com/.../pii/S1470160X25002110
Proud to have received the Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership. This Award is also the result of the work of all my friends, partners and colleagues in Invertebrate Conservation.
The next submission deadline for the MbZ Species Conservation Fund is approaching: 31 Oct 2024. The funding has been increased so that more projects can be funded. We are keen to fund conservation projects for soil biota (special focus), but any project on invertebrate conservation is welcome. The focus of the fund is on conservation action. So, if you know the major threat to a species, please make sure that you try to mitigate that threat. https://www.speciesconservation.org/
