#52Ancestors in 52 Weeks: A Theory in Progress

In a way, it's hard to believe it's been more than seven months since I last posted, but it's been a busy time. Tim and I have been running two consignment booths - cleaning, pricing, and selling things that my mother has collected or made over the years. Her fears about thieves escalated, and she began to imagine they were getting into the house.

@rbreich, yes, he's a dictator, but I believe he is, at least in part, controlled and guided by those people around him. They're not all just "toadies." After all, he didn't write "Project 2025". He's just following the playbook, emulating other dictators, and looking for the best ways to enrich his family along the way.

#52Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Artistic

Genealogist Amy Johnson Crow this week posed the question, "Is there a painter, crafter, quilter, knitter, crocheter, or musician in the family?" My mom, Zenova Cook Hahn, could answer to most of those titles. I'll start with the last; she had piano lessons growing up, and even accompanied one of her friends when she had an appearance on a local TV program in Pensacola, "The Lynn Toney Show." She was also in the high school chorus, or…

DNA Shared Matches Peril

You may know this. I certainly knew this, but it's not something one thinks about until one is faced with the cold hard evidence. Just because a person shows up on your shared match list, it doesn't mean you are related through the same common ancestor. Today, I decided to look at one of my maternal Stephens matches (I have to differentiate, because I have Stephens on both sides).

The Great Pensacola Blizzard of 2025

It was probably Thursday the week before the blizzard that one of my coworkers - I work at at TV station - said that the meteorologist was thinking we might get snow, but he didn't want to say it on the air just yet. The next day, he said it on the air - there's a chance of snow. We'd had snow in Pensacola, Florida, before.

My #NewYear traditions are watching "When Harry Met Sally" so that the final NYE party hits at midnight, then eating my first bowl of black-eyed peas. Just winding down now, so I can get to sleep before too late.
New Year's Eve for #genealogists
After a long hiatus, I have written a blog post with exciting news about my Stephens line and how Pro Tools guided my research. #52Ancestors "Lost Contact" https://rhymeschemesanddaydreams.wordpress.com/2024/10/13/52ancestors-in-52-weeks-lost-contact/
#52Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Lost Contact

Today, I report on a major breakthrough in one of my two Stephens lines. As I’ve written before, I never knew what became of my great-great grandfather, William A. Stephens of Conecuh County,…

@thedanielsgenealogy I look back at my life, at the age you are now, and I wonder what might have been. What if I had applied to the private college I wanted to attend, but knew I couldn't afford? What if I'd tried harder to find a sponsor for the local TV show I wanted to make? I can't go back, but would I even want to? If I had changed one thing, would I have never met my husband? Life is not a straight path, so we can't see the road ahead; we must just make the best of the journey.
@PostcardsFromParadise Yes, the matches are on Ancestry, cand now you mention it, I have heard the 20cM rule before. Thanks for reminding me. It just seemed so odd to have no shared matches with someone Ancestry was saying should be a 3-4 cousin.
