Thanks for the tips - I can manage a dummy plug if required. Glad to hear AMT would be local-only unless I take additional steps.

Intel vPro/AMT Security Considerations - Lemmy.world

I’m new to the selfhosted/homelab space and eyeing a used Dell Optiplex Micro system to experiment with. The unit has an i5-8500T and appears to support Intel vPro/AMT for remote management and KVM. This is interesting to me as I may not want to have a monitor and peripherals permanently connected. After substantial searching, most of the documentation and discussions on this topic are aimed at people with a deeper background. I believe I can figure out how to set it up, but I couldn’t find straightforward answers to these security questions: -I only want to use this for KVM while at my home. It seems like a security risk if this functionality works over the internet rather than just LAN. Is this actually the case, and if so, can it be set to LAN-only? -Since the machine had a prior owner, is it advisable to reset the BIOS or somehow clear out potential vPro settings from the previous user? Thanks for any help you can offer!

I’d love the option to move the jump button to the center (this is how I used it on Apollo) which would also solve your problem!
Interesting topic, thanks. What kind of speeds can one expect when downloading? Can it rival a well-seeded torrent?
Fully agree. One of the worst offenders is the PS5 whose standby lights can’t even be covered with tape properly because they’re complex curves. Even the clocks on my stove and microwave are too bright. I happened to have some black “washi” tape (basically masking tape) and it did a nice job of dimming them without looking out of place.
Love the new icon options! It was something I secretly hoped you’d implement down the road, and I’m amazed you found time to include it so early!

There isn’t a specific app with suspicious battery drain. Mostly it’s just Safari with considerable screen on time, which correlates with my actual observed usage. I think you’re right that for my use case, I’d ideally want a bigger battery. And if Apple ever makes a new Mini with a much improved battery, I’ll be first in line!

I’ll check out the MagSafe battery, thanks.

Good info about the battery cycles. Just checked mine and I’m sitting at 676 with 88.5% capacity as reported by CoconutBattery.
I’m in the same boat. I wish I had known the 13 mini would have significant battery improvements over the 12, as I would have used my previous phone an extra year and held out for that one.
Appreciate the suggestion. You’re correct, I’m not looking at purchasing a 13 mini due to the relatively poor value proposition of that upgrade.
