On Christmas last year our new paper on near infrared and X-ray flares #SGRA* was accepted which will appear in A&A letters soon. I'm sharing some of the key results from the paper:
First we stacked an shifted flares so that their peaks are centered at t=0. This simple trick (which somehow nobody tried before) revealed that while all flares look different, they share quite some things in common. In particular they can be described by simple exponential functions. #astrodon #astronomy #papers
Found the Kangxi-Verbiest celestial globe in the yard of KU Leuven in Belgium. It's a copy of the original which is located in Beijing, which was created by Ferdinand Verbiest, Adam Schall von Bell and Xu Guangxi who were astronomers at the Chinese imperial court in 1675. It's quite pretty... Of course the original was stolen by 'european armies' (the British) at some point, but they actually returned it in 1921 as part of the Versailles treaty. The copy in Leuven is from 1988.
