I am affected by a disease of the brain that compels me to share my (often bad) opinions unbidden.
youtube shorts really has a problem with constantly recommending misogynistic andrew tate-y content, especially to kids. even if you have your recommendations tuned away from far right content, the pukestream of hateful content doesn't stop. i honestly don't even know why there isn't more backlash about this. its gone to the point where people around me IRL have begun getting slowly more misogystic because of this content. people i used to consider friends.

fucking algorithms, man.

http://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/jul/15 “Border agents' tactics included descending on Mexican American neighborhoods, demanding identification from “Mexican-looking” citizens on the street, invading private homes in the middle of the night, and raiding Mexican businesses. Without a hearing or oversight, agents often seized and deported people who were lawfully in the country. By the end of these crusades in California, Arizona, and Texas, as many as 200,000 Mexican immigrants had returned to Mexico—including many who were not undocumented and some who were U.S. citizens.” Same old shit. Different year.

@blink I have heard a few people say positive things about threads. Every single one of them was already a public figure with an existing large audience on facebook or instagram that they were able to rapidly convert into an instant following. People whose only motivation for using social media is reach, follower count, and making viral posts.
@kalyau The antenna feature is what you're looking for. It enables following tags, and also following keywords if you like. You can create an entire feed around a set of keywords and tags if you like.
@kainoa Of course, it's up to you to decide if that's within the scope of things you want to do with the service, or if we should politely ask Peertube developers to alter their implementation. #calckey
@kainoa I've seen that the videos are embedded if the link directly to the video itself is posted, but if you go, for example, to https://calckey.social/@[email protected], all the text content of a video post is displayed, but the video itself is not. That's more of what I'm looking at.

At least, that's how it's functioning for me.

The Linux Experiment (@thelinuxexperiment)

I'm Nick, and I like to tinker with Linux stuff. I'll bumble through distro reviews, tutorials, and general helpful tidbits and impressions on Linux desktop environments, applications, and news. You might see a bit of Linux gaming here and there, and some more personal opinion pieces, but in the end, it's more or less all about Linux and FOSS ! I'm thinking about the concept of activitypub interoperability lately. So far, the majority of development in activitypub has been around microblog services, and there hasn't been an issue with how these integrate with each other on a basic level. But as it gets spun out into more diverse services with different modes of interaction, like Kbin and Peertube, how these services might operate with each other becomes less obvious. If I follow a Peertube channel account, or a castopod account on Calckey for example, should the video be embedded in my timeline, maybe a direct link to the native peertube page?

I'm not a developer though, so I've got no idea what is possible in this area, or what is beyond the scope of the project.

Don't talk about illegal things (abortion in certain places, DIY HRT, etc) on facebook messenger. Don't do it on whatsapp or via SMS or Instagram DMs or Twitter or Mastodon or Discord or whatever.

Use signal. Use a PIN on signal. Turn on auto-destruction of messages. If your data is not fully end-to-end encrypted, that data can and will be handed over to police and it will be used to prosecute you.
