The short answer is that it’s complicated, yes there is some dog whistling because it appeals to a certain voter base, and fidesz’s biggest competition are far right parties. But this is a common issue all over Europe, a general shift to the right.
On the other hand, Orban and Netanjahu are close allies, the government supports Israel, the government is using Israel’s Pegasus spy software against Hungarians, so there’s a close, supportive relationship.
The main theme here, in my opinion, is this continuous campaign strategy of inventing villains that Orban can fight and win against. The more imaginary the better, as it leaves more room for controlling the narrative.
I think it’s a great example how they rinse and repeat the same
wait times will only significantly decrease if healthcare is unaffordable to the majority of Canadians
Wait a minute! So if I buy your healthcare, and start defunding it, while simultaneously increasing prices, thus reducing the number of patients at the same rate as the services are failing therefore not increasing or perhaps even(!) reducing waiting times through prohibitively high costs,
I can both sell privatisation as a success story, AAND make record profits with my pals in the insurance business through cost cuts and price increases!? And I even end up with a less empowered workforce who’s healthcare is tied to their employment and therefore unable to negotiate better salaries or leave for a better job easily? Kinda like medieval serfs??
Stop please stop! I can only get so excited (and I can’t afford an ambulance) Big /s of course
It’s not my place to tell you how you approach your Hungarian heritage, just want to let you know that while Hungary pushed through a kind of soft book ban where LGBTQ books must be foil wrapped in the bookstores - to protect the children - It backfired and the wrapped books are more popular than before
Besides if the bigots pushing these laws are not ashamed of themselves, why should you be? You have as much right to mold the Hungarian identity as they do.
