Technical feedback from engineers and liveaboards is very welcome.

Hydrogen & 48V: Why I’m Building a “Sea Tractor” for True Decentralized Autonomy

After years at CERN working on high-energy physics, I realized the most urgent physics problem today isn’t inside a particle accelerator — it’s the broken housing infrastructure and energy dependence around us. Inflation, the housing crisis and the fragility of classic yachts forced a complete strat

🛠️ The system is designed for maximum flexibility — especially future refueling options as hydrogen tech improves. Full open-source documentation planned.

Full 48V architecture breakdown:
• Hybrid battery ballast (LFP + Sodium-ion in keel) 🔋
• Fuel cell as range-extender
• 1.5 kW Solar Hardtop ☀️
• 10-15 kW electric propulsion ⚡

Realistic look at the challenges too.

⛵ After realizing classic yachts can't handle serious 48V + H₂ systems, I switched to heavy-displacement hulls: Westerly Centaur, LM 27 & Colvic Watson. Why? They are the only ones that work as real "Sea Tractors".
📄 New technical article:

3️⃣ COLVIC WATSON (26-31ft) The Heavy Lifter. Extreme displacement. This hull can carry 1 to 2 tons of Sodium-ion batteries as low-center ballast without losing its rough-weather stability.

2️⃣ LM 27 (Denmark) The Hybrid Lab. A robust double-ender motor-sailer. The high, flat roof over the wheelhouse is a ready-made platform for ~800W of solar panels. Crucially, it has massive interior volume to safely house heavy LFP battery banks. ⚡️🛠️
1️⃣ WESTERLY CENTAUR (26ft) The Off-Grid Anchor. Twin bilge keels mean it stands upright on the sand during low tide—zero expensive crane lifts for maintenance. Its massive 3m beam is the perfect geometry for a rigid 1.5kW+ Solar Gazebo. ☀️🔋

⚠️ STRATEGY PIVOT: We are abandoning fragile "classic" yachts. You can't build a massive 48V/Hydrogen architecture on a weak foundation. We need a "Tractor of the Sea"—heavy, wide, and brutal.

Here are the 3 target hulls for Phase 1 of The Ark Project: 🧵👇

⚡️ We build the 48V/Solar core first. Once autonomous, we integrate H2 fuel cells. My labor will fund the physical boat. I need the community to back the 48V R&D.
