My blood runs Duke and Democratic Blue. 💙 Former candidate for TN House (2x) in a deep red district, but hey; somebody’s gotta do it. TNDP Exec. committee member; a county party chair. “No, I won’t back down.” Tom Petty
Was careful, wore a mask, got the shots, so don’t understand how I could have tested positive for woke mind virus.
I wrote an article diving into the statistics on far-right extremist violence compared to far-left extremist violence, and to say the least, it’s not a “both sides” problem. An estimated 75% of extremist killings in the US over the past decade are attributed to far-right extremists, compared to 4% attributed to far-left extremists — and that’s on the high end of the estimates for far-left extremist violence.

Violent extremism in America is a far-right phenomenon

The stats are irrefutable. Trying to make it a "both sides" issue just distracts from the real deadly threat — which comes from the far-right.

🆕: In the past few elections, youth voters have consistently turned out and had major impacts on election results. But rather than celebrate this civic achievement, Republicans are passing laws restricting young voters’ ability to cast their ballots.

I should share that I was an advisor briefly to Post.news, asked to put together an advisory board. I withdrew for various reasons -- disagreement about another advisor and about federation -- and have no ties to it now. I received nothing. I like Noam, its founder, and respect his work (Waze!). I'll watch Post. But I'm much more engaged here and want to study and learn about the potential of federation -- ActivityPub, Bluesky, Scuttlebutt -- as a model for public discourse.

@Blumoonr @ProPublica Then again, even these actions — ending IVF and contraception— might finally even move those always “R” voters… and get more people to actually vote. As I heard several times during this past election, “We’re not a red state; we’re a non-voting state.”
@Blumoonr @ProPublica in Tennessee? Not until it hurts their wallets. The TN GOP supermajority barely pretends to care about people; it’s all about big biz. They gave Ford Motor Company a billion $$ in incentives to open a plant here yet refuse to expand Medicaid. (TN ranks No. 1 in medical bankruptcies; leads in hospital closures.). When biz stops coming here due to the overbearing govt or big pharma stops giving them $$ (re:ending contraception) that might make a difference.
