Your 2025 Beef Strogonoff Wrapped! - Lemmy.World
Ground Beef Version - The biggest practical shift is the widespread adoption of
ground beef stroganoff as a budget-friendly, weeknight alternative. This isn’t
exactly revolutionary, but it’s become increasingly popular as a way to make the
dish more accessible and faster (30 minutes vs. traditional preparation).
Vegan/Plant-Based Stroganoff - There’s growing interest in vegan versions using
plant-based “beef” products from brands like Beyond, Impossible, and Gardein,
along with vegan sour cream and heavy cream alternatives. This represents a
significant adaptation for dietary preferences. Chinese “Velveting” Technique -
Some cooks are applying the Chinese meat tenderizing technique called
“velveting” to budget cuts of beef, which involves coating the meat in
cornstarch and briefly blanching. This lets people use cheaper cuts while still
achieving tender results. Key Technique Refinements include: tra-fast searing
(30 seconds per side) on super-high heat to prevent overcooking Using a sealed
plastic bag to tenderize and season beef (cleaner process) Greek yogurt as a
lighter substitute for sour cream Adding umami boosters like fish sauce
Venezuela & Maduro - Lemmy.World
What the US did in Venezuela is absolutely wrong. Let me start with that. The US
has no authority in that country and should not intervene at all. That being
said, my probably controversial opinion is that Maduro being removed from
Venezuela can only be a good thing for the future of Venezuela in the long run.
This dictator that has been running Venezuela has been running it into the
ground. He is at least complicit with gangs around the country that have been
stripping it to its foundations. At worst, he might even be their leader. So,
while its possible nothing will change. (And that’s also part of the reason why
the US shouldn’t have done that) There’s also a chance for a revolution to start
from this.
Question for the community that hates Ai

Question for the community that hates Ai - Lemmy.World
Are all uses of ai out of the question? I understand most of the reasoning
around this. Training ai models requires gigantic datacenters that consume
copious amounts of resources (electricity and water) making them more expensive
for everyone for something that doesn’t have much benefits. If anything it feels
like its fuled a downturn in quality of content, intelligence and pretty much
everything. With the recent job market in the US I’ve found myself having little
to no choice on what I work on and I’ve found myself working on ai. The more I
learn about it the angrier I get about things like generative ai. So things that
are open ended like generating art or prose. Ai should be a tool to help us, not
take away the things that make us happy so others can make a quick buck taking a
shortcut. It doesn’t help that ai is pretty shit at these jobs, spending cycles
upon cycles of processing just to come up with hallucinated slop. But I’m
beginning to think that when it comes to ai refinement there’s actually
something useful there. The idea is to use heuristics that run on your machine
to reduce the context and amount of iterations/cycles that an ai/LLM spends on a
specific query. Thus reducing the chance of hallucinations and stopping the
slop. The caveat is that this can’t be used for artistic purposes as it requires
you to be able to digest and specify context and instructions, which is harder
to do for generative ai (maybe impossible, I haven’t gone down that rabbit hole
cause I don’t think ai should be generating any type of art at all) The ultimate
goal behind refinement is making existing models more useful, reducing the need
to be coming up with new models every season and consuming all our resources to
generate more garbage. And then making the models themselves need less hardware
and less resources when executed. I can come up with some examples if people
want to hear more about it. How do you all feel about that? Is it still a hard
no in that context for ai? All in all hopefully I won’t be working much longer
in this space but I’ll make the most of what I’m contributing to it to make it
better and not further reckless consumption.

Is the US losing its competitive advantage in energy? - Lemmy.World
I feel like every other day I see news about some break through or other in
solar/wind/hydro or in battery technology. We know China has been building solar
infrastructure like crazy. And Europe is also heavily investing in this. Also we
see all the advances in Fusion and new ways to achieve it. I can’t help but feel
like the world is very close to an “energy revolution” and burning fuels for
energy is going to be obsolete very soon. (decades) The US and Russia and India
seem to be countries that don’t give a shit about this (Maybe I’m wrong about
India) When the industrial revolution came about, the countries that couldn’t or
wouldn’t adopt the new ways of manufacturing were very quickly left behind. Is
this going to happen to the US and other countries that aren’t embracing new
types of energy in the coming decades?

[meta] Spoiler rule - Lemmy.World
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have a rule to prevent race
spoilers on this community till 24hrs after a race? Given the nature of races
being in a different part of the world every time, time zones vary greatly and
it’s not always possible to watch a race “live”. Personality I would like to
stay subbed to this community, so I can get f1 news and posts when I browse
Lemmy. But if it isn’t possible to make a rule like that and I’m likely to get a
spoiler I would have to either stop using Lemmy for 24hrs (oh the horror) or
unsub from this community. Just a thought.
