No appreciable impact on illicit drug supplies, misalignment with other foreign policy goals, and a string of humiliating scandals.

The DEA seems off the rails. It desperately needs oversight. (In the quote, “Landau” is Chris Landau, Trump’s ambassador to #Mexico.)

DEA Mexico chief quietly ousted over ties to drug lawyers

MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration quietly ousted its former top official in Mexico last year over improper contact with lawyers for narcotraffickers, an embarrassing end to a brief tenure marked by deteriorating cooperation between the countries and a record flow of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl across the border.

With this series of weekly updates, WOLA seeks to cover the most important developments at the U.S.-Mexico border. See past weekly updates here. Local media show a growing pattern of threats and attacks against migrant shelters in Tijuana. Two cases this week.

"This issue is personal to many evangelicals… the United States should stand with those persecuted for their faith—and that means voting against H.R. 29 [the Republicans' 'Border Safety and Security Act of 2023']."

Will Congress sacrifice the persecuted church on the altar of border security?

A few years ago, many of my evangelical friends began changing their social media profile photos to the Arabic symbol for the letter “N,” the symbol that ISIS reportedly was using to mark and threaten the homes of “Nazarene” Christians. It quickly became a global sign of solidarity with persecuted Christians around the world. Christians,…

It's been a week and a half since a National Guardsman wounded a migrant.

It's very rare for U.S. military personnel to fire on a civilian on U.S. soil. This demands utmost transparency, to prevent his incident from being repeated.

But Texas authorities are being opaque, revealing little about what happened. AP reports: https://apnews.com/article/politics-texas-mexico-6f97a21533a0e4c85474a12c31fab97c

Texas silent after Guard member shoots migrant on border

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas National Guard member shot and wounded a migrant during a struggle this month on the U.S.-Mexico border as the soldier tried to detain the person, according to records from the state military, which has not publicly disclosed the incident.

Riot police have targeted reporters during Peru's protests. Photojournalist Guadalupe Pardo's camera protected her from serious injury from a fired projectile yesterday.

Violenta movilización en Lima y envían militares a la región Puno

Protesta no cesa.
