@skullabyss Welcome to Mastadon! I'm just returning after having forgotten about it for a while. Been on Lemmy a bit since.
@zornog They're definitely out there. You might be able to find a specific Mastodon instance that caters more to your interests. I want to say there's at least one with a focus on TTRPGs like D&D, but I don't know it. You could check instances.social.
@evilchili It would be really interesting to see how the internet would be made if it had to be remade today with what we know now. I'm sure there are a number of nice tweaks that could be made that are just too difficult to undo now.
@doomy Most of the benefits of crypto today are more vital to people living in less well-off countries. That's why we're seeing legal adoption in El Salvador and not the US. But there's a lot of really interesting work being done on things like lightning network and side chains that are going to make it undeniably useful. Right now, it's like super early internet. It's kind of primitive, and it hasn't really reached its potential yet.

@freakinbox

Yeah, there's a little more to it like how public messages spread and what you can see on your server. Basically, your local timeline is for your server, and your federated/global timeline is everything on your server plus what people on your server are following. So you don't necessarily see everything from the whole network, but some servers, like this one, see a whole lot

@freakinbox It's like email. Anyone can host a server, and all the servers can talk to each other, so it doesn't really matter which server you use unless that one's full of shitheads that piss off all the other servers.
@12blaxx All I'm hearing is you 100% know what you're talking about
@benborges ...even if you have no moral issue with it, how desperate do you have yo be to try to FORCE the locals to fight for you? Like this can't lead to an effective force. Considering how the people have resisted so far, this can only lead to sabotage
@squeakypancakes Gonna have to second that "false". You must rip and tear until it is done.
My favorite part of the laughably inept #Trump insurrection is that afterwards, someone went on Parler and claimed that if people posted their identity and a list of crimes committed during the cosplay coup, they'd get pardons from Trump. And then they did! They detailed who they were and everything they did wrong. They just lined up to hand themselves on a silver platter to the FBI.
