@siracusa Jeff Bezos is an investor in Slate Auto. Amazon Flex delivery drivers need a vehicle. Flex doesn't currently offer direct financing for vehicles. But maybe that'll change. Last mile delivery driver is more and more a job of the future (for better or worse). I think that's definitely a factor re:Slate being a truck and its price point.

@kalleboo By that logic, ATP should stick to commenting on Apple tech rather than Apple's business decisions. Because it's not Accidental Business Podcast. (I disagree. They should talk about all of it)

Look, I'm not saying Casey's opinion is wrong, I'm just trying to add some context

@caseyliss Do you have retirement or other funds invested in the US stock market? That would be a place to start. They seek rents to provide the market with returns. Either divest from the system, or, buy Apple shares (as a developer community) and become shareholder activists.

Check out the Planet Money piece and give it a think.

@caseyliss Regulated? For normal corporate behavior? You always seem to speak (on ATP) about stuff like this as if it's only Apple. EVERY similar corporation in America is rent seeking. Maybe you only notice when it's Apple because that's what you're familiar with?

@atpfm Re: your low-cost MacBook discussion. I have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and I find that they work pretty well with iPadOS. I sometimes use it like a laptop. Could Apple produce a clamshell iPadOS device with a cheaper touchscreen/no back camera? (Trade the cost of the touch screen/back camera for the keyboard/mouse/shell.) How would that sort of device compare to the Chromebooks that your kids use?

@dunkelstern @briankrebs I don't use "smart" Hue features. I just adjust the color/brightness of my lights during the winter months (in Helsinki). So, I get wanting just a local account.

But bridges can also be used to control cameras and motion sensors. And kids can foul up lighting configurations. So there really needs to be a variety of permissions/roles available.

The only practical way to offer a just a local account, would be a local server. Not a bridge. And that just seems like a whole other can of worms.

In any case, like or not is a matter of opinion, but I respectfully disagree that Philips is "lying".

@briankrebs Forcing sign-in allows for admins and users to be defined. Before, _everybody_ was an admin. (And there are plenty of situations in which that's not a great idea.)
