The old saying is celebrities die in 3 but Pele, Barbara Walters, Pope Benedict are quite a bunching. Most famous soccer player in history, one of the first prominent woman journalists, and the former leader of the Catholic Church.
More bummed than I thought I would be about Pele. As a very young boy, I got to see him and Franz Beckenbauer of the NY Cosmos play George Best and the LA Aztecs. He was still amazing as an older player.
When MLS started, I was there April 1996 for the opening game for the LA Galaxy, and to my surprise, Pele wanders onto the field to do the coin toss.
Maradona, Ronaldo (Brazilian) Christian Ronaldo, Messi, all of them followed and were inspired by his gifts. RIP King.
