ยท๐‘–๐‘ฑ๐‘๐‘พ๐‘ฏ: Come and learn the Shavian alphabet - Lemmy.World

This is the Shavian community: a community to practice reading and writing with the Shavian alphabet. The Shavian alphabet is a phonetic alphabet for the English language: in Shavian, you write a word the way you pronounce it. For more information you can check out the alphabet chart on the wiki page here [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shavian_alphabet#Letters]. The Shavian alphabet was proposed by the 20th century playwright George Bernard Shaw, and created after his death. Shaw was passionate about phonetic writing, and wrote some of his literary works in shorthand. So how about you, why might you want to learn the Shavian alphabet? Maybe youโ€™reโ€ฆ - a writer too, and want to experiment with writing phonetically - a non-native English speaker and you want to read English as itโ€™s pronounced - generally interested in linguistics, and want to play with a new toy - interested in learning a language, but donโ€™t have the time or inclination. Settle for learning an alphabet instead! Just want to practice reading? Subscribe and get a few morsels of Shavian script in your feed every day. If you want to write, come and give it a go! For text input, you have a few options. If youโ€™re a Linux user and like to keep it simple, hereโ€™s a Shavian XKB layout [https://gitlab.com/iykury/shavian-xkb] you can edit as you wish. Otherwise, shavian.info [https://shavian.info/keyboards/] has some keyboard resources. ๐‘”๐‘จ๐‘ฏ๐‘’๐‘• ๐‘“ ๐‘’๐‘ณ๐‘ฅ๐‘ฆ๐‘™ ๐‘‘ ๐‘ฅ๐‘ฒ TED ๐‘‘๐‘ท๐‘’!

Can I hide my community from feeds? - Lemmy.World

I created the shavian [https://lemmy.world/c/shavian] community yesterday to allow users to practice writing with the Shavian alphabet [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shavian_alphabet]. This means that content is written in English with a non-Latin alphabet. Even though I havenโ€™t told anyone about the community yet, there has been some traffic: I think my posts so far are being served in a feed somewhere. This is not desirable: a general user would not want to see post titles with unrecognisable characters in their feed. Is there a way to hide a community from feeds? I found this post [feddit.org/post/6849329] about hiding a community, but I donโ€™t know if this is possible on lemmy.world.

A few more good ones I found

Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia - Talichova komornรญ filharmonie Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale - London Symphony Orchestra

Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia (Orchestral performance)
