Toots a lot about politics, pop, comedy, literature and trivia - will irritate anyone who wants a more obsessive focus.

Blog update: Psychedelic Beach Boys inspired whimsy from the oddly named Giant Jellybean Copout. Jim Ryan of The Critters - who had a minor hit with "Younger Girl" - is the driving force behind this work.

Blog update: Canadian sixties group The Sceptres with their only UK release "Something's Coming Along". They issued a string of singles and had a huge French language hit back in Canada, but no success in other countries.

Blog update: Mandarin Kraze from Southend on Sea with their final harmony pop single. One of this lot went on to join The Records, you know.

Blog update: Best known for her skiffle hits, folkie Nancy Whiskey returns with a more plaintive recording of "Freight Train". Beautiful self-penned autumnal ballad on the B-side as well.

Blog update: Did a group of children really gather round a recording studio mike to sing lovingly about Yoko Ono in 1970? Unless there's another story around this absurd record, it seems likely.

@BlogOfThePops And signed to Pinnacle, the label of Pinnacle Distribution, back in those days not exactly a roaring success!
@BlogOfThePops You may have a point.
It's got a spot-on impersonation of those "Moo-mow-mee-moo-mow-mow" backing vocal noises that one of the Beach Boys used to make (was it Carl? Unbelievably, I've never bothered to find out and have always just assumed.)
Blog update: One of the finest glam rock flops - this one takes the Beach Boys sound and hurls WH Smith glitter all over it. Its failure is perplexing, but it's possible the public had largely moved on by 1975.

How old is the story of Dick Whittington? Young people leaving their home towns to get on in life isn’t news.

The fault is not with kids for not wanting to stay in neglected, run down communities, it is with successive governments for making everything about London or at a push Manchester.

I did it - its a life of dreary long commutes and wages never matching prices.
