instance likely going down for maintenance as I finally bother to run upkeep on it

irc.oshaberi.ne.jp #cronk if you wanna watch me complain as I do!

We're on 2.3.3 now

A little concerned by this though:

===> NOTICE:

The mastodon port currently does not have a maintainer. As a result, it is
more likely to have unresolved issues, not be up-to-date, or even be removed in
the future. To volunteer to maintain this port, please create an issue at:

https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla

More information about port maintainership is available at:

@calvin @Sir_Boops I've seen the same warning, too. @jrm has been working on it up to now, but I'm not sure what the long term plans may be.

Wrangling the whole Ruby gem situation into ports instead has probably been the (at least most visible) biggest pain point.

I'm not any sort of developer, though I've tried to point out when things get out of sync (usually someone else updating a rubygem port 'too far').

@kithop @calvin @Sir_Boops

Ruby Gem dependency descriptions make it challenging for any OS to contort Gems into OS packages. FreeBSD probably does a better job than most. Committers contributing to Ruby Gem ports had some discussions recently. Hopefully the outcome will be changes to reduce these types of issues.

I dropped maintainership of net-im/mastodon, but I hope to continue with updates when time permits.
