@adam @ChrisWilson @maxmustermann @DaDenMan @eriner @ServerStatus The problem with 'silenced' is that it is actually a default block, so people will not get your messages that you send them directly unless they follow you.

No Agenda Social
@adam @ServerStatus @eriner @DaDenMan @maxmustermann @ChrisWilson It is a problem because it leads to this situation that has happened to me a lot:

1. I'm silenced on Mastodon.social
2. I post something on my server
3. Someone who follows me on mastodon.social repeats my posts
4. Someone on mastodon.social who doesn't follow me reads my posts an replies, often with a question
5. I answer that question, but the person never sees the reply, because I'm silenced
6. They think I ignore them.

No Agenda Social
@lain @adam @maxmustermann @ChrisWilson There's also amazingly many who just suspend everyone instead using a silence.

e.g .social suspended all of masto.quad.moe.

And I wasn't even given a reason for it. At least three people contacted me via birdsite confused only to return to .social and complain about why I'm blocked. But the mods over there still didn't seem to bother, they couldn't even tell their own users the reason why I was suspended. All three ended up having to just back their bags and leave.

And the ability to leave your account is great when it's voluntary, when you don't have a choice, it's not as fun.
