Spent a while last night thinking about the state of communication software; a bunch of friends are moving away from zephyr (an ancient IRC-like platform with some neat features) to discord, and this is totally reasonable for them to do but the sorry state of the software ecosystem makes me sad

I want to hack on matrix clients and set up a better system with zephyr-style topic threading and bridges to zephyr/discord/slack/everything

Which probably means I need to stop whining and learn React

I've developed a bad mindset of constantly grumbling about modern webdev toolkits because I think I'm too good for JavaScript and Ruby

But these are the Schelling points the community has settled on, they have some weird quirks but they're still usable, and if I want to build on existing large-scale free-software efforts I need to stop being a snob and just dive in
