Started a forum - it won't let me post to it

I registered a new account on my Friendica node, and selected the account type as "public forum".

I then logged in with my main account, sent the forum account a friend request (which it accepted).

Then I tried to post on the forum with my main account, but there was no button for posting with? (the button with the pen in it)

I had already made sure the forum account's setting for friends posting on your wall was switched on, and also that we were friends, so I don't understand why it won't let me post to the forum.

Have I done something wrong, or is there some kind of delay with the posting being activated?
The most common way to use a Forum is the the way that @Adam Clark just described: The mentioning of the forum via the exclamation mark from your account. Does this work with your forum?

Concerning the posting to a Forum directly on the Forum's profile: You did this with this posting, so it does work in general. But to make this work, you have to visit the remote site via a "magic link" (this /redir stuff). I guess the same is valid when the forum is on the same machine like your user account.

Ahaa... ok, this is something I did not know. I have never seen a forum where you have to mention it in a general post with a special character. I am used to forums where you go to the forum's page, and then there's a "start new topic" link or button or blank form or something which lets you post there.

The only way I knew how to post in this support forum is because the "new post" icon appears at the top of the sreen.

But unfortunately I do not see this "new post" button on my own forum, so I do not know how to post in it. Is there any way I can force it to appear? How do I do the "magic link" thing?

I think #FacebookRefugees like myself are expecting the forum page to have a button or box/form to fill in, because that's how we post to groups or other people's walls. I don't think we would intuitively realise that we have to use special characters in general posts. On FB that would just be a way of tagging someone, but not a way of posting on their walls.
Friendica Forum (search)

Like @Michael Vogel already said. It is possible to post directly on the forum profile page.
You need to be connected with the forum (so the forum is a contact of yours). Go to your contacts page and click on the link with the forum name (the link should be like https://friendica.dandys.space/profile/krisse/redir/3579 - the number at the end can differ - this is a magic link). You should be redirected to the forum and a welcome message should appear. Normally there should be also a post button.

Note:
Links to profile pages which are directly in a post text aren't magic links at the moment

This is weird:

I am a contact with both Friendica Support forum and my own Film forum.

If I go to my Contacts page and click on the Friendica Support forum link, it takes me to the support forum profile and shows the post button.

If I go to my Contacts page and click on the Film forum link, it takes me to the film forum profile but does not show the post button.

Why do the forums behave differently when I take the same action?
