I installed FreeDOS on a Dell 1.7 Pentium with 756 meg ram. I got a C: prompt and I type type instead of cat to view a file. I notice the autoexec.bat file runs fnet.bat if it exists so I assume that is for starting FreeDOS networking.

Also I got several ram use options when I booted. No idea what they meant but I get the ram tradeoff situation with a 640K OS.

@hairylarry Fnet will only run if you install it from the boot disk.

After you install the base package, theres a package manager that'll get you a bunch of extra apps, including the fnet batch file, and networking applications.

As for the RAM options, it's about which EMS/XMS/JEM memory extender they load so you can access hi ram over 640k. Which one you want to pick will depend on which options are supported by the apps you want to run.

I installed dosemu on my workhorse Xubuntu and ran qedit. It all came back. I have to figure out how to get qedit over to the FreeDOS system.
