I got some smart wall sockets for Christmas.

Like a responsible adult, I set them up so that I can tell my phone "lumos" and the lights in my apartment turn on.

@bridgebury This is the best use of any sufficiently advanced technology.

(Also, I have never wanted smart wall sockets more than I do now.)

@Soless I'm considering getting more; they're not *that* expensive.
@bridgebury I can't justify them in our studio apartment, though. Like, the light switches are literally as close to my chair as practically everything else in the place. When we move to a bigger place, though...
@Soless Ah yeah. I'm mostly going to be using them to turn the lights on and off in the living room when I'm in the bedroom and too lazy to get up; our one bedroom apartment is bigger than a studio, but not by much.
@bridgebury Ha! Fair. What brand are they? Were they easy to setup?

@Soless I think they were these - there's a lot that look similar, but these at least use the same "tuya smart life" app as the ones I got for Christmas.

They need a 2.4ghz wifi instead of 5, but our router is dual band so it was fine. Otherwise, super quick to set up. I set up the lumos shortcut through the Google home app, but you can get the same result using ifttt.
