The lionising of the concept of "originality" in entertainment is one of the most besides the point avenues of attack in criticism; as blah & false as "character development".

The unique value of almost all creative work is in the execution of it; originality as a metric only really measures the width and depth of the critic's experience and knowledge. Especially when one takes a medium-agnostic view like in that post.
