Fun fact: if you've ever seen or heard a word repeated so often that it stops looking/sounding like a real word, you're not alone! That's called "semantic satiation", and we're pretty sure it's the same neural mechanism that, for example, lets you get used to cold water by dipping your toe in repeatedly; as your brain receives the signal repeatedly, your neurons lose their sensitivity to it.

Cool side note: deliberately triggering it has been proposed as a treatment for stuttering!
