YO guess who passed their chemistry exam with a B+?!
(It is I)
@curlyqueued congrats! Was it organic chem or inorganic?
@regal HA neither....just introductory chem. At my uni they use the intro chem classes it to weed out students so they make it very hard on purpose
@curlyqueued oh damn that's what MU did too. Trying to weed out so us hopeful pre-meds!
It definitely worked, but that doesn't make it fair
@regal Aw man that sucks! And yeah, I'm not pre-med bt there's a lotta pre-med students I know that struggle w/ chem and physics. STEM is hell
I'm guessing you're pre-med, or some sort of STEM as well?
@curlyqueued I graduated 4 years ago. Went in as pre-med, came out w/ a BS in Bio, and a BA in Religious Studies and now I’m working as a Java programmer #theNewAmericanDream haha.
Loved my STEM classes but hated that they were just trying to churn us into worker drones. Plus the fellow students were....kinda intense. Religion was super fun though! What are you studying?
@regal Oh jeez sorry for the late reply! Things got super busy on my end, not to mention I went home for break.
Anyways, I am a Public Health major right now, second year. I like it so far but I'm still uncertain of what I want to specifically do for a career (I have waffled a lot...almost went to art school for crying out loud).
@regal It's a tough balance to maintain art and college studies, and tbh college is winning rn 😅 Hopefully I can draw more over break.
Also religious studies and Java sounds neat! Never taken classes in either, but I've had friends that have and they liked it.
@regal Also, agree with the comment on STEM majors and worker drones. I haven't felt it myself since PH is a diverse major, but my biochem and physics major friends are feeling the "go into grad school and then industry or perish" mentality.
@regal Or, y'know, work for the government I guess? I guess a lot of Physics majors are pushed into that (according to my roommate).
@curlyqueued it's amazing how much work there is in the government. Even now I'm an independent contractor doing work FOR the government. *you can't escape* lol
Public Health is really smart. I so regret getting a vanilla "biology" degree because it left me up a creek when I dropped pre-med aspirations!
I always encouraged my student tutees to do whichever degree they want though because ultimately, if they work hard and network, they'll get *something* viable
@regal Yeah government work seems to b pretty diverse. I've heard it's good for stability and benefits, but I also heard it can be hard to get w/ out connections.
Also yeah, I chose Public Health specifically because it's so flexible as a major. If I had more time/money I would probably also pursue an art degree and/or comp sci BUT. I have neither. Maybe grad school will give me the chance 😅
