People who keep switching to new instances, I'mma be honest, I'm pretty lazy, so eventually I'm not going to be able to keep up and keep following people HITHER AND THITHER. One of my concerns here is this fragmented, fractured experience.
@chuckwendig Yep. I'm thinking about the experience of running multiple Twitter accounts for different purposes, and it kiiinda works, but it's a PAIN. But it's probably more a pain on the user end than the reader end, so I'm not gonna fret too much just yet -- just gonna go with the flow and see how it washes out.
@chuckwendig That being said, yeah, I wish there was ONE log in and you could join multiple instances using that single log-in/username. Alas, I think the current system is probably pretty much baked in the cake at this point.
@chuckwendig Undoubtedly there are already tons of people who have the same user name in different instances. Meaning, JANE CHO is @[email protected] and JANE PAPADOPOULOS is @[email protected]. So even if there was new code that would let you use one username across all instances, neither one could have @Jane across all instances. SAD FACE.
@gregpak It strongly suggests until that gets negotiated, this place will be better for broadcast -- like, I SAY A THING, MAYBE PEOPLE ARE HEARING, MAYBE THEY'RE NOT
@chuckwendig@gregpak This is something that's been discussed, but it's not on the roadmap. You can't force a new instance to reserve usernames for existing users on every other instance. You'll always have to specify your instance when sharing your handle.
