My school decided that 6th grade was an appropriate age for us to read My Ántonia. As a result, I've never tried to read Cather as an adult because I hated her so much as a kid.

Now I am rereading it all these years later. Beautifully written, though still not my favorite book ever or anything, but worth reading.

Have you ever gone back and read something you hated in school? What did you think?

@LauraKCurtis You know I've never done that. I've gone back and read things I loved and been terribly disappointed, but now I need to think of something I really hated. Hmm...
@panoramix LOL!! Some I hated too much ever to try again. For example: Moby Dick. But some I think I just wasn't ready for.
@LauraKCurtis Never read Moby Dick when I was young (not on the curriculum over here, apart from some short excerpt.) but really liked it a couple years back. Not really YA I agree :)

@panoramix @LauraKCurtis

I don't think I ever have either. I've reread books I enjoyed at the time, with more understanding. And Catcher in the Rye grew on me. (I thought he was terribly whiny the first time I read it. ;-) )

@willaful @LauraKCurtis
I never read Catcher in school either, but I found him horribly whiny at 25. :D
