It depends on the part of the body, the face i'm a little more hands off with but the body I found the key to good skin for me is regular exfoliation and avoiding tight clothes a day or two after I shave.
as well as exfoliating before shaving.

Although I seem to have lucked out on genetics with absurdly soft skin but this seems to work for me.
