So I saw Thor: Ragnarok last night and I... didn't get it, or even like it. I haven't seen the earlier Thor movies which may be the issue here, but what am I missing?

@keschner I liked it. I don't follow the bigger universe of the movies all that closely. But to me it was just a fun, action romp that didn't take itself too seriously. It almost felt like watching someone play a videogame, but in a way that didn't annoy me.

But a couple of people I saw it with didn't like it and it seems like they didn't for almost exactly those same reasons. Haha.

@ZachJenkins That would make sense. Because it's intended for such a large audience I kind of assumed it would be more accessible to people who hadn't seen the first two than it ultimately was.
@keschner I'm trying to imagine seeing it without the prequels and it seems like the jokes wouldn't make sense so you'd be left with three or four energetic action scenes full of people you weren't very invested in.
@Wsteria yeah, that was probably the issue. I saw it because a friend wanted to and I figured why not. Maybe I'll watch the trio of movies backwards
@keschner ...I think you'll end up hating them, but go for it if it floats your boat. Dark World was hard enough to get through when I had context, I can't imagine what it would be like without any.
