Home column: People you follow
Local Timeline: People you follow + your instance (server)
Federated Timeline: Global toots from a lot of other instances (servers)

Boost = Retweet
Star = like

You can join other instances (apparently mastodon.social is getting overwhelmed)

Since you are an artist, I would suggest mastodon.art
