@brownpau Crashing your dark social party.
@kingkool68 be sure to say hi to your friendly admin @rustyk5
@brownpau @rustyk5 Hi! Wait I already signed up on https://mastodon.social/web/accounts/659 Can I merge them? That seems hard to do?
@kingkool68 I don't think so. I also have https://mastodon.social/@brownpau and haven't done much with it.
@brownpau Oh. So I talk to you over here and talk to other people over @[email protected]
@kingkool68 @brownpau you can't merge accounts BUT due to the magic of federation you can talk to anyone anywhere from either account!
@rustyk5 @kingkool68 Yeah Mastodon federation means interoperability; you can communicate with accounts on other servers, like with email.
@brownpau @rustyk5 But if I want to be the same person everywhere I need to signup and fill in all my details over and over again. That seems problematic.
@rustyk5 @brownpau This seems a lot like Facebook Groups but with Facebook Groups I remain the same person from group to group. If I wanted to be someone else I could just signup as a different account. Although I see how problematic it would be to be @kingkool68 across a federated network.
@kingkool68 @brownpau nah you don't have to sign up anywhere else -- you're @kingkool68 everywhere automatically. Think of it like email: if you have a gmail account, you don't have to sign up on yahoo to email someone at yahoo.
@rustyk5 @brownpau So how do I follow along what is going on over at mastadon.social from here?
@kingkool68 @brownpau you can follow folks from there, and people you follow will appear in your Home feed here, and people they follow or interact with will appear in our server's Federated feed. The thing you can't do from here is see mastodon.social's "Local" feed, that's always local to whatever server you're actually on. If you want to see that, you have to log into your account over there.
