The lifespan of some animals live is absurd considering the complexity and energy involved in their evolution and growth. The particular example my brain always circles back to is cuttlefish.

A cuttlefish has ten limbs, jet propulsion, active camouflage, eyes with no blind spot, is venomous, can spray ink, is probably smarter than a dog. It lives about 2 years!?

It's like building a gyrocopter Fabergé egg with a laser and a Deep Blue AI then dropping it straight into a hammermill.

@paralithode rats. they are so smart and sweet but they die in like 2 years yep

@paralithode Cuttlefish absolutely blow my mind. When I lived in Australia for a year I kept going back & back to aquarium to watch them.

Maybe all that complexity and ability is too much to be sustained for long? That's a crappy argument on my part, though. Maybe what matters is the quality, not the length. For evolution. But really, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Back to just being stunned, mind blown, by cuttlefish.
