I can't believe I woke up to this. The United States decided that a con man, a bad loser, a mysoginist and a racist was a better choice than a woman.
Even if that idiot changes his stance once president, the country *voted for that kind of platform*. And we can never go back. And you know how hate crimes spiked after Brexit, because racists felt emboldened by the Leave vote? That, but the US is much larger, and everyone has guns. Holy shit.
@gargron I broke down and cleaned the AR-15 Bushmaster, yesterday. Going to replenish the ammo situation.
@pennyfortheguy @gargron the system has created and feed the monster , now the people have to deal with it and the consequences.
@ghostdancer @Gargron
I do not mind the US people having to "deal" with the situation, but unfortunately, the whole world has to.
@Gargron Eh, I agree with the first part but I don't see how Hillary being a woman has any bearing on her qualifications to be president.
@Verius She had the best qualifications for being president, having been first lady, vice president, and senator before. If you think that her being a woman did *not* affect how the campaign against her played out, you are mistaken.

@Gargron It's certainly possible that her being a woman affected the campaign against her. I'm just saying that her gender in and on itself doesn't influence her qualifications.

Her having been first lady and senator (not VP, unless I'm missing something) does matter, a lot.

And I agree she had the best qualifications of the field by far.

@Verius @Gargron I would say that it is much more than possible that her being a woman worked against her. The US is full of people who will publically state that a woman can't be president and there are many more who think it even if they wouldn't say it out loud.
@inmysocks @Gargron There are two effects. One is that there are plenty of people who want a women to break through the glass ceiling. The other is that there are plenty of people who don't want that. Unfortunately it's hard to estimate which effect is bigger since the former opinion is socially desirable while the latter is socially undesirable and people tend to be more vocal with socially desirable opinions.
@gargron problem is that the woman represents a lot of the problems of the system, and people have chosen to punish the system ...
@gargron without thinking of the consequences
