Been approaching #AmbientMusic, recently. Partly through my #musicking activities and partly through something of an #EarOpening process.
It's an interesting path to take. As a musical genre, Ambient is pretty niche. And it can easily attract negative attitudes (like any genre, of course). But there's something about #AmbientMusicking which is more of a practice.
Attended Ottawa’s #DroneDay, this past weekend. Certainly opened my ears.
@Enkerli Went to the Halifax Drone Day this year with my son - great event https://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/a-look-back-at-obey-x/Slideshow/7697937/7698393
@grantpotter Neat! Did you perform? The Ottawa #DroneDay was a very cozy and welcoming affair. Really helped me get more insight into the local synthing scene. The Switched on Synths #SOSfest is coming up soon.
@Enkerli didn't bring gear with us - was in city for another event - will definitely next time! #SOSfest looks great https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5335e7a1e4b01dab8f088be1/t/592d8d35725e2587014ee2eb/1496157495454/Targ+sos+web+v1.pdf
@grantpotter Our Drone Day ran from noon to noon, with a jam at 6pm, which was my first time playing with people in this scene.
Brought my alto sax, wind controller, Axoloti, and iPad. Didn't use the Axoloti, this time around. Ended up switching between my sax and wind controller driving a Wavestation patch on the iPad. Wasn't impressive, maybe, but it was a lot of fun. Hope to be able to do an actual set, next year, probably with a #RaspberryPi.
