In a move straight out of Erdoğan's playbook, Theresa May deploys military for domestic policing in UK amid general election.

“There’s a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.” – Commander William Adama, Battlestar Galactica

@aral Well out shopping today I didn't see any troops around government facilities, or even any police. So I think it's all electioneering bluster.

It's funny how that even without a policeman or soldier on every street corner society still keeps going. Perhaps that says something about the superfluous nature of authoritarianism.
@aral We are in an election campaign, and the total sum of her manifesto is "strong and stable". What else did you expect? What's more strong and stable than the military marching the streets of the capital?
@aral used this to explain to my friends why military in your street is not a good idea
@aral All people from Brazil, where we inherited a military police from the dictatorial regime, should check this...
