*clutches coffee, a disaster of fleece and bedhead* Tonight is #nerdromance date night. But I'm starting my day with a little oatmeal-baking (granny smith apples, quick oats, maple syrup, cinnamon!) and participation in the racial justice FB group I'm part of, to help cool my nerves and distract me from the anticipation.

I'll probably add to that effort by lifting some weights and reading something good. Anyone have any recs for a distractingly good novella? :'D

@dani_p The last two really good novels I read were Winter Tide (Ruthanna Emrys) and Climbing the Date Palm, sequel to The Second Mango (Shira Glassman)
@dani_p @DialMforMara also A Disaster of Fleece and Bedhead is George RR Martin's meta-novel about his fans
@DialMforMara *COUGHS ON OATMEAL IN LAUGHTER* WELL DONE. YES. And if it isn't yet, it should be.
@dani_p talk to me about baked oatmeal. Is it like a cake kind of thing, or a cereal you eat with a spoon?
@eskay8 it's kind of got a custardy, bread-puddingy texture—there's an egg in the mix helping to hold things together and lend volume! basically, I baked the chopped apples covered for 20 minutes. then I topped them with quick oats and walnuts, and covered the layers with a wash of soy milk, maple syrup, egg, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt. the oats expand in the liquid and the heat sets the egg a bit. I served it with a little extra maple syrup and a glug of soy milk!
@eskay8 and could be made vegan by replacing that egg with a mashed bananas and that melted butter with some Earth Balance or a bit of coconut oil. :'>
