Because I trust you folks more than I trust the hordes on Birdsuite, you guys got any suggestions for my first foray into writing about my life in Mexico?

This is a draft, btw. When I manage to get up from my laptop, I'll go take a picture of the stand.

@nickfarr 3321 characters - it would need to go into ca. 10 toots. 1 paragraph per toot? it would have been a different literary form altogether. Maybe an interesting one?

I don't know why I have a strange uneasy feeling whenever I go to medium.com

@saper Oooooh, there's an idea. Serialized stories over Mastodon.

I wonder when devs are coalesce around deeper threading here.

Seems like Medium is the mid point on the corporate creepiness scale that starts with Facebook and ends with Mastodon. (But it's easier than running Wordpress, exposure, metrics, yadda yadda).

@nickfarr I saw some essay excerpts here and I liked it. Actually your story could be a nice fit since paragraphs are a bit self-contained and on the other hand one piece may make you want more.

My intention is not to boast a stallmanic critique of Medium users only just a little sigh.

At least we do not chat on the birdsite now, that's progress!

Re: threading:
I even took liberty to change the translation of "X replies" in #Amaroq in the case of "X replies to X" -> I made it to read something like "X continues" in Polish.

I must say I like it that way a lot, maybe other languages could follow.

@nickfarr well. One suggestion would be that you show me this favorite place of yours! And then I show you mine.
@nickfarr I have an even better idea. We show each other our favorite places in CDMX (mostly places to eat I assume) and record podcast episodes there. Maybe make it a separate series.
@flowfx YES TO ALL THE THINGS! I've really wanted to get on a podcast for quite some time!

@nickfarr I like the notion of 'taco batch'. It also reminds the reader of how far they are from it.

"Be one a foreigner or native, it’s hard to know what real life in Mexico is like until you understand a struggle justified by the joy in finding foods that make the whatever seem worthwhile."

@nickfarr :P needs more pictures of ancient ruins in the middle of modern society.
@nickfarr it was not that easy to read because of a few words I simply do not know. So I got the context but could not picture it that much in detail. I guess you target an English readership (is this a word?) so it is nice. I could use some dictonary explanations among a few words. Overall nice read.

@Bobo_PK Yes, readership is a word and you are right about the intended audience.

The concept I'm trying to get at with aspirational and largesse is quite complicated...

@nickfarr to give you an idea of my lack of vocabulary. aspirational? Gringo largesse?
