Whoa! This new #StarTrekDiscovery TV show is rather un-Star-Trek-like. I dare say it's a wee bit #StarWars. It also seems to veer away from established uniforms & aliens. I'll reserve judgement, but there's no way it could possibly be as bad as #JJAbrams's interpretation.

@SlowRain I'm not the world's biggest Star Trek fan - my knowledge only extends as far as TNG and Voyager - but I just watched the trailer thanks to your link and I'm actually very excited. Maybe it's the female leads. I did get the same Star Wars vibe that you got, but that was probably just the desert planet shot.

@Carrie Yes, the desert scene definitely did it for me because I don't remember a desert scene in #StarTrek that 1.) wasn't filmed in a studio, or 2.) didn't have #Starfleet uniforms. It's a departure, for sure. It also seems darker.

A male or female captain doesn't bother me, it's their character & the acting that's more important. I'm hoping the series is successful, but I don't know how I'll watch it on the other side of the world #Taiwan isn't exactly big on #StarWars, let alone Star Trek.

@SlowRain The trend for television in general lately seems to be darker and "grittier" shows, sometimes to their detriment, I think. And slick filming isn't going to matter if it's not a good story. I'm not sure what you mean by no uniforms, they seemed to be wearing them in the trailer? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

Maybe there'll be a stream or two you can catch to see them.

@Carrie I meant no uniforms in the desert scene. But, even their uniforms were not normal for #StarTrek.

Star Trek was always very positive and sterile. To lose that for a trend may not be a good idea. They'll have to tread carefully. Temper it, but don't lose it completely.
